POV-Ray: http://www.povray.org/ UberPOV: http://github.com/UberPOV/UberPOV ---------- English translation of the shown text: 1) This animation shows the principle of stereographic projection of crystal faces. 2) The depicted crystal consists of the following forms: (yellow) {1, 0, 0} (blue) {1, 1, 0} (white) {1, 1, 1} 3) First one has to find the normals, the directions perpendicular to the crystal faces. 4) Then the crystal gets scaled down to bring the normals to the origin. Only their direction is of importance, not their position on the surface of the crystal. 5) Next a sphere is drawn around the origin and then the normals are projected onto the sphere. 6) Then the drawing plane is brought into the equatorial plane of the sphere and its north- and south pole are marked. Then the poles are connected to the normals on the opposite hemisphere. 7) Now the normals are projected along the lines onto the drawing plane. 8) This is the finished stereographic projection of the crystal into the plane. Pale colors denote the normals lying on the upper hemisphere, while darker colors belong to the ones on the lower hemisphere.
