Dark Dream - Lord of Mysteries ED / Curley Gao [Piano] | Frosted Note “Lord of Mysteries” is an anime adapted from a Chinese novel, and honestly, the production quality is way better than I expected. The ending theme, Dark Dream, has a grand yet mysterious vibe — both in terms of melody and overall emotion. It’s pretty clear that the piece heavily incorporates Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, especially at the beginning and the middle of the song. Given how the anime is full of mystery and secrets, blending Moonlight Sonata into the soundtrack is such a brilliant choice. In this arrangement, I added quite a lot of accompaniment figures between the main melody lines, mainly to match the flowing nature of the song. There’s a background run of notes throughout, and I emphasized the lower bass notes to give it that powerful, bell-like sound — similar to the original song. For the parts inspired by Moonlight Sonata, I tried to include both the main melody (which would be the vocal line in the song) and the background notes from the sonata, covering both mid and high registers. To make the chorus sections hit harder, I added right-hand tremolo and followed that with a chromatic scale — specifically around 1:31 and again at 2:40, where I used a glissando that flows from right hand to left hand right before jumping into the second chorus. Around 2:14 to 2:24, where the left hand keeps playing the same bass note in a single bar, you can either press the pedal twice per measure (on beats 1 and 3), or just half-pedal through the whole bar to create a more connected and sustained sound.
