On January 7th, 2022, the first successful xenotransplantation was performed at the University of Maryland Medical Center. By drawing on David Bennett's recent pig heart xenotransplantation, we explore the genetic modifications that made this surgery possible, explore the implications of the current surgery and how it will impact the organ transplant waiting list. This video was made by McMaster students Mohaimen Ibrahim, Anusha Desai, Hasan Salman, and Samara Hasan in collaboration with the McMaster Demystifying Medicine Program.
