FAA and the RC/Drone Pilot The 11 Rules This video will discuss the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and the 11 rules the FAA is asking the recreational RC (radio control) and drone pilot to follow. In short, the RC/Drone pilot and the 11 rules. Drone rules and the FAA involvement with recreational RC pilots has evolved and grown over time. The first formal FAA involvement in our USA/UAV hobby was in 2015 with the requirement for registration. This was followed in 2016 with the introduction of the drone law under Part 107, certification of drone pilots flying for commercial gain. The latest iteration of rules for drones in 2021 was the final rule from the FAA on remote identification, released on Dec 28, 2020. This video focuses on FAA rules for the recreational RC and drone pilot, in other words pilots flying unmanned aircraft for fun. Recreational rules are more lenient as opposed to Part 107 guidance, to include flying at night. Note that remote ID for drones will be required for all pilots by Sept 2023. At the conclusion of the video I'll discuss two future developments the FAA is working on, which are an aeronautical test for RC pilots as well as guidance for community based organizations, which for RC/drone pilots will focus on the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).
