This week’s special guest is Secretary of Aging Carmel Roques, who has been passionately making new strides for Maryland's Seniors. From her leadership roles as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Philanthropy Network and multiple positions of Chief Operating Officer for Episcopal Ministries to the Aging, Virginia United Methodist Homes, and Keswick Multi-Care, Secretary Roques has had a significant impact within her field. In 2023, she was appointed as the Maryland Secretary for Aging, which oversees the delivery of programs, services, and benefits for seniors throughout Maryland. In this episode of “Kibbitzing with Kagan,” we discuss her background; the moment that sparked her curiosity and passion for aging; and the first time she met Wes Moore. We also talk about the Department of Aging’s mission; what the Longevity Ready Maryland Initiative and its object for all residents; and the under-reported Durable Medical Equipment Program and how to donate equipment.
