Transcript As Follows: ALISON: Hey everyone—and welcome! You’ve made it to the National Literary Competition Awards Ceremony, hosted by Gallaudet Youth Programs. This Awards Ceremony is all about the work you submitted this year. Some of you wrote. Some of you signed. Some of you did both. All of you took a chance and shared your ideas—and that’s what this competition is about. In the next few minutes, we’ll walk through each category and reveal this year’s honorees and winners. Names will appear on screen, so keep an eye out—you might see yours. Let’s get started FREDDY: We’re starting with Writing. First up: Poetry. Short lines, big ideas, and powerful feelings. Here are the Poetry Honorable Mentions and Winners. (Results are shown on screen) MELISSA: Next is Creative Writing. Stories, scenes, and characters that kept our judges reading… and reading… and reading. Here are the Creative Writing Honorable Mentions and Winners. (Results are shown on screen) BRUCE JR.: Great work to everyone recognized in Writing—your keyboards can rest now. Next up: ASL categories. First: ASL Storytelling. Clear signing, strong stories, and moments that made us lean a little closer to the screen. Here are the ASL Storytelling Honorable Mentions and Winners. (Results are shown on screen) LEILANI: Our final category is ASL Handshapes Stories. This category pushes students to plan carefully and think creatively. Here are the ASL Handshapes Story Honorable Mentions and Winners. (Results are shown on screen) JULIA: If your name appeared on screen today—congratulations! Winning entries will be featured on the Gallaudet Youth Programs website, where friends, family, and teachers can admire your work (and maybe brag about you a little). First-place winners receive: A $100 gift card, a Gallaudet University sweatshirt, and for middle and high school students, a waived fee for one Gallaudet Summer Youth Camp. Not bad for sharing something you created, right? But we’re not done yet. JUSTIN: Each year, we choose two Grand Prize winners: one from ASL, and one from Writing. Not only did these two submissions earn the highest scores, but they stood out and left a lasting impression on our judges. Grand Prize winners receive: a $250 gift card, a Gallaudet University sweatshirt, and a choice between: free registration and travel for a Gallaudet Summer Youth Camp OR a $1,000 scholarship to Gallaudet University. Okay… deep breath… This year’s Grand Prize winners are… (Results are shown on screen) ALISON: Congratulations to our Grand Prize winners—and to every student who submitted work this year. Thank you for being part of the National Literary Competition. We hope you’ll keep creating, keep sharing, and submit again next year. We’re already looking forward to it!
