During a visit to the Trans Giri area of Himachal Pradesh, the MBB team learned about the Hatti or Hattee community. In this community, women hold a unique and prominent role as the undisputed head of the family, with authority over household matters. Furthermore, the team discovered that it is common for men within the community to share a common wife, a practice known as polyandry. This practice of polyandry, prevalent in the Himalayan region, is often linked to the economic challenges faced by the local population. Polyandry has been a long-standing tradition in certain areas of Himachal Pradesh, and its impact on the lives of hill people has been significant across various aspects of their daily activities.
