"Piggybacking" in orthodontics is a technique used when significant movement of a tooth is required, especially when it's out of alignment due to crowding. It involves placing two archwires within the brackets simultaneously—the base wire and the auxiliary wire. The base wire holds the space, while the thinner auxiliary wire assists in precise movement. Remarkably, within just two months, the lateral incisor was almost in its perfect position. To achieve better torque expression, the normal bracket of the lateral incisor was inverted upside down. Root torque expression typically takes months, and space closing was facilitated by power chains. In June 2019, braces were removed, and fixed retainers were placed. Retention records, captured four years after treatment completion, demonstrate the stability of the alignment.
