The Stagecoach 400 is one of the most iconic bikepacking routes in the world. Episode 1 of this five-part documentary series explores how a simple line on a map across Southern California grew into a gathering place for endurance riders searching for something deeper than finishing times. Created by Brendan Collier, the 400-mile route links mountain forests, desert basins, and the Pacific Ocean in a single self-supported ride. What began as an artistic experiment eventually evolved into one of the most respected underground events in bikepacking culture. Stagecoach has always lived in a gray area — part ride, part race, part ritual. In Episode 1, we go back to the beginning and the moment that sparks it all: the Grand Depart. This episode features: Brendan Collier — creator of the route Meg Knobel — steward of the event Riders who return year after year More than a race, Stagecoach has become a proving ground, a shared challenge, and a community ritual. And it all begins with a gathering. Episode 2 premieres next Friday.
