Welcome to our Reinforced Concrete Design series to Eurocode 2. In this lecture, Topic 6 Part 2: Longitudinal Shear, we explore how shear forces are transferred between the flange and web in flanged reinforced concrete beams. We examine how these interface stresses develop, how they are modelled using the variable strut inclination method, and how to design the required transverse reinforcement in the flange according to Eurocode 2. 📌 In this lecture, we: ✅ Explain how longitudinal shear develops between the web and flange in T- and L-beams ✅ Show how bending-moment variation causes unbalanced flange and web forces ✅ Introduce shear transfer and interface stresses at the web–flange junction ✅ Describe the truss-cell model with inclined concrete struts and transverse tension ties ✅ Outline the design stages for longitudinal shear 🏢 This series has been developed by Dr Leon Chernin and Dr Margi Vilnay. 👷♀️ Delivered by Dr Margi Vilnay – Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering, Chartered Engineer, and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. 🔎 Follow the full Reinforced Concrete Design series 📚 Watch the complete playlist for all lectures: https://bit.ly/3JWCPGy 👉 Subscribe for more lectures like this! #ReinforcedConcrete #ShearDesign #LongitudinalShear #Eurocode2 #ConcreteDesign #StructuralEngineering #CivilEngineering #RCDesign #FlangedBeams #TBeam #TrussModel #ShearReinforcement #EngineeringLectures #EngineeringEducation
