Chief William M. Feehan joined the New York City Fire Department in 1959 as a member of Ladder Company 3. In his 42 years with the department, he steadily made his way through the ranks. When he was named Chief of Department in 1991, he became the first person in history to have held every position in the FDNY. Chief Feehan died at his command station on September 11, 2001 at 9:50 AM when the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.
