Odontogenic sinusitis is a common yet underrecognized type of sinusitis that is very different from other forms of sinusitis. It refers to sinus infection that has spread from various types of dental infections, and can be a miserable condition for patients. New research from Dr. Craig showed that for symptomatic patients with this condition, sinus surgery first resulted in the most complete and fastest disease resolution, compared to dental treatment being done first. Patients of course still need evaluation and possible treatment of teeth thereafter. On September 13, 2019, Dr. Craig will be moderating a novel multidisciplinary panel of experts in endodontics, oral surgery, and rhinology, where they will discuss the prevalence and pathophysiology of odontogenic sinusitis, with a focus on the importance of a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and managing this important condition. This panel begins the much-needed collaboration between the fields of dentistry and rhinology to achieve optimal outcomes for patients with various forms of odontogenic sinusitis.
