India Maritime Week 2025: India’s Maritime Strength Powers 60% of GDP | India Today News

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted India’s strong maritime position, noting that the country has over 11,000 kilometers of coastline across 13 coastal states and Union Territories. He said maritime activities contribute about 60% to India’s GDP. India also has 23.7 lakh kilometers of exclusive economic zones, attracting global investors and manufacturers. With 800 million people living in coastal areas, nearly half of India’s population is in maritime states. The 28 countries in the Indian Ocean region account for 12% of global exports.
