It extends from the foot St. Charles Street all the way to clover point. Many people assume that Isabella Ross inherited the land from her late husband, but early records show that it was actually Isabella herself who purchased the land. This effectively makes her the first women to purchase and own land in not only Victoria, but all of British Columbia. Isabella now rests in the cemetery over looking the bay and beaches named after her. There are several different sections of the Ross Bay Cemetery, each one could be a video in and of itself. I do plan going back and doing more in depth videos where I talk more about the history and significance of each section of the cemetery. There is little commentary if any in this video. It was meant as more of a walk through, just a quick tour of the area. I wanted to give you an idea of what it's like walking through and old cemetery in Victoria BC in the summer. I did see a bunch of smashed up graves, I don't know if that was from construction or vandalism, but either way it's sad see them all smashed up like that. Victoria has a reputation for being home to many dark occult circles, so it makes one wonder what they heck someone was out here doing in a cemetery with all these old graves. The cemetery itself is said to be haunted. It certainly does have a creepy, paranormal feeling to it. If you believe in such things then I think who ever smashed those graves is taking a chance by pissing of the ghosts and spirits that dwell there. Among the more famous ghosts who are said to be seen in the Ross Bay Cemetery are Isabella Ross & the ghost of Sir Matthew Begbie and Emily Carr. Wild life is a common thing in Victoria BC, and Ross Bay Cemetery is no exception. You can usually find deer running around the cemetary, as if it was their own private park. I film several deers in this video running around. The care takers shed sort or resembles a cottage and at times you forget your in the middle of a city while you are doing a tour of the cemetery.
