High quality CBD must start with high quality hemp! Have you heard the term “garbage in, garbage out”? All CBD is made with hemp, and there’s no way to make a decent CBD product if you start with lousy hemp. You should ask two questions about the hemp when shopping for CBD. 1. Where was the hemp grown? Look for hemp grown in the US, Canada, or Europe. Crops grown in developing countries may contain unsafe levels of pesticides, herbicides, or heavy metals. Lots of CBD products sold in the US are made with Chinese-grown hemp. Chinese agriculture is notorious for producing contaminated crops. It might be safe, but it might not - it’s not worth the gamble! 2. How was the hemp grown? Look for certified organic hemp, or, if not certified, hemp that was grown with organic methods. Organic production is extra important for hemp, because it’s a bioaccumulator, meaning it pulls compounds from the soil. If hemp is grown in contaminated soil, all the contaminants will be in the plant and be transferred to any medicine made from the plant. Hemp quality is just one factor to consider when shopping for CBD. There are lots of bad CBD products out there, and it’s critical to choose wisely!
