The prices and availability of ammo and reloading components is rising, it is time to start exploring other avenues such as reloading steel and berdan cases. In this video I show you how to modify the case to fit a large rifle primer. This involves swaging a copper bushing into the primer pocket. The primer bushing is made from simple 1/4" copper tubing. Copper tubing is ideal for this purpose because it is soft, easily swaged, and easy to obtain at any hardware store with little expense. The process of swaging the copper bushing extrudes excess copper from the bottom, this must be removed. I used a grinding wheel which is hard to use precisely but you can try a flat file, drill, sand paper, dremel tool, or the method of your choice. After removing the excess copper I pass the pocket through the swager one more time to flatten out any burrs. The case can now be reloaded repeatedly like standard brass. I loaded it with 180 grain lead cast bullets that I case from my NEI mold. Bullet casting is a great way to cut your reloading costs and ensure a steady supply of bullets even during times of limited availability.
