Peter Mendelsund’s book Weepers is a surrealistic story of mourning and messiahs, deserts and droughts, cowboys and junkies, miracles and mass hysteria, the lure of despair and the solace of friendship. It is a novel for this age: our age of anesthesia and anger. In Makenna Goodman’s novel Helen of Nowhere, a realtor is showing a disgraced professor around an idyllic house in the country. She speaks not only about the home’s many wonderful qualities but about its previous owner, the mystifying Helen, whose presence still seems to suffuse every fixture. Peter Mendelsund is the author of seven books. He is one of the top book designers today, as well as the Creative Director of The Atlantic. He lives in New York City. Makenna Goodman, is the author of two novels, Helen of Nowhere and The Shame. Goodman is also an editor and she is based in Vershire, Vermont. The Brattleboro Literary Festival has always been free for all participants, but we rely on your support to cover author travel and accommodation expenses, hospitality, recording, venue rentals and tech expenses.
