Indian Girl Spent 12 Days in Tibet - Episode 2 Today I am in Gyirong, also spelled Geelong or Kyirong , is a picturesque town located in southern Tibet, near the Nepal-Tibet border. It is the first town you will enter upon entering Tibet via Nepal. Known for its stunning landscapes, serene ambiance, and cultural significance, Gyirong is often referred to as the "Valley of Happiness." Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, dense forests, and pristine rivers, Gyirong offers breathtaking views. The Gyirong Valley is a lush green oasis compared to the arid Tibetan plateau, making it unique in its natural beauty. Gyirong has historical ties with Tibetan Buddhism and is home to ancient monasteries. I visited two monasteries, one is called Pakpa Monastery, another one if Guru Padmasambhava/ Guru Rinpoche Cave, a place where Guru Padmasambhava had meditated for long during his visit to Tibet in the 7th century. The Gyirong Port (Rasuwa Border) connects Nepal and Tibet, making it a popular route for travelers and pilgrims. It’s the only open land border between Nepal and Tibet for foreign tourists.
