On July 22nd, 1934, agents from the FBI closed in on the Biograph Theatre on Lincoln Avenue, Chicago. For the best part of a year, the FBI had been searching for famed gangster and bank robber John Dillinger, a 31-year-old Indiana native who, through a series of bad decisions, had wound up becoming ‘Public Enemy Number 1’. But, as agents moved in to arrest Dillinger as he left the theatre, he attempted to flee and was shot in the back by the FBI’s officers. In the aftermath of his death, many people were left with questions - questions which numerous biographers have attempted to answer over the last several decades. Who was John Dillinger? And what led him to a life of crime?
