The Sound of Jacqueline du Pré: Revisiting her Medical and Musical History https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles... I submit that this is one of the All-Time, absolute, very best ever first dates! Can you top this? It was with my future wife, the incredible pianist, Jerri Lee James - Owen. I was studying with Robert Jamieson, Principal of the Minnesota Orchestra, and he arranged for us to attend the morning dress rehearsal of Jacqueline Du Pré’s debut with the MSO, the Elgar Concerto. Then, in the afternoon, we went to a matinee of Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet. Then a Peking Duck dinner at the Nanking Restaurant, followed by a transcendent performance of the Elgar by the radiant 23-year-old Jackie Dupre. Four years later, we heard a memorably blazing performance of the Lalo Concerto, just a few weeks before she stopped performing due to her tragically debilitating MS. Thankyou, Jackie, for two of my most inspiring concerts! Kate Bennett https://katebennettwadsworth.com/about/ https://www.gramophone.co.uk/reviews/... https://stringsmagazine.com/a-recent-...
