I spend this episode on the operating end of my Husqvarna 460 chainsaw. My gracious neighbor had a windblown oak tree, that is a magnificent piece of lumber. Averaging about 2 feet in diameter in the lower 20 feet, with barely a knot in it, and straight as a tightly pulled string. Its location makes this a great challenge. The section I want to harvest will weigh almost 5000 lbs, and have to be pulled up a slope that is very steep in places and washed out. Since this tree will make wonderful beams for my new carport, I can't turn down the opportunity. I'll spend the first part episode preparing this timber to be moved. You'll have to return next week to see if I can get it out. This channel is dedicated to educating and entertaining anyone interested in the art/science of historic restoration, which will include construction techniques and goals, related off-site projects, a little homesteading and off-grid living, history and maybe even a little farming. Since I work alone, and depend on no one, this is the ultimate DIY channel! On this property stands a Dogtrot style log cabin built in 1850, with an addition constructed in the 1970's. Although at one point, this was likely quite a nice and well cared for home, but years of neglect has caused a lot of deterioration. My intent is to have you learn some construction and restoration basics, as you watch. None of my videos are intended to teach the use of safety techniques or use of personal protective equipment.
