This video traces the path of Union forces under General William B. Franklin from Burkittsville, Maryland to the summit of South Mountain via Crampton's Gap. The Battle of South Mountain took place on 14 September 1862, during the Maryland Campaign of the Civil War. Battery B, 1st Maryland Light Artillery, was in reserve on the east side of the main road, south of Burkittsville during the battle. Louis A. LeBrun is my 3X great-grandfather, a canonneer in Snow's Battery. The route begins at the center of Burkittsville, crossing the intersection of Gapland Rd and Burkittsville Rd; continuing northwest on Gapland Rd to the crest of South Mountain. These videos are produced as field trips are completed, and will not be posted in the chronological order of the war. This video was recorded on 11 April 2020.
