[1cc] Armed Police Batrider (Advanced Course) - ALL Clear - Shorty C

Armed Police Batrider is a shoot 'em up developed by Raizing under Yagawa's direction. 00:00 Start-up 00:33 Stage 1 01:38 Stage 2 03:56 Stage 3 05:27 Stage 4 07:34 Stage 5 10:00 Stage 6 15:20 Stage 7 22:10 Ending Normally, you're supposed to play the game using teams of 3 characters which can be pretty tricky because they're extremely unbalanced. However it's possible to use a code at the starting screen, or a dip switch setting, to only pick one character and play it like a regular game. There are also many hidden characters (from Battle Garegga or the Mahou games) which are unlocked in a similar fashion. Shorty is considered one of the strongest and she's a default character, which means no code/dip switch is needed to use her, besides the Solo mode if you don't want to bother with teams (which I really recommend for a basic 1cc). The game also has some hidden bosses which are triggered under specific conditions. These conditions are generally about destroying specific enemies, sometimes in a specific order, and having at least one surviving character from Garegga or the Mahou games in your team. These bosses are also found in those other Raizing games, like Glow Squid, Black Heart or Bashinet, among others. There are also some hidden bosses at the end of Stage 5 if you picked special power-ups early in the game. For survival you want to avoid triggering those bosses. Good thing is that Shorty is a Batrider character and isn't eligible to trigger most of these bosses, except for those in Stage 5. For scoring you obviously want to fight them. The boss you fight in Stage 5 depends on what Stage you played in second, and Stage Edit is important for that. You REALLY want to avoid fighting Envy because he's super hard, and therefore absolutely don't want to pick Airport as the second stage. Sobut (which you get with Sewer as Stage 2) is probably the easiest of the 3 possible bosses, whereas Blunt (Sky-High as second stage) is a little hard but manageable. Rank is a bit of a simplified version of Garegga's rank system. I actually don't care much about it when playing. I'm really no expert, but unlike Garegga or Bakraid, I don't think it's recommended to self-destruct before picking extends because the rank values are different and doing so isn't very advantageous. As usual, rank increases when you seal bullets, collect medals, shoot and so on, but you really shouldn't think about it too much. Changing autofire rate has no direct effect on rank (beside the fact that you'll shoot more/less, and will obviously have more/less rank increase from your shots, but there's no per frame stuff like Garegga), so feel free to use the maximum fire rate for bosses while switching back to 12 or something for stages. The game has a built-in auto and that's what you should use instead of setting up a plug-in/auto circuit. You switch between auto rates by pressing Start + A (for increase) or C (for decrease). The game has a ton of hidden commands. There are two very important things to note about rank though. If you start the game normally, the game will begin with pretty high rank. You have to enter Service Mode (with F2 on MAME), put the cursor on Game Mode, then press start (and not A). It will make a massive difference. Without this trick, the rank starts at 34% in advanced, whereas it's only 12.5% if you do the Service Mode trick. For normal course, it goes from 25% to 0%. The second thing is that you should avoid picking an extend to get back to full life stock (of if you're already at full stock) because the rank increase is crazy. The game also has hidden extends but they're hard to get. You can get one by letting the large blue hovercraft at the start of Stage 5 survive until it stops in the tunnel before destroying it, but keeping it alive is super hard. You can also miss 3 large bomb items on purpose, but doing so is a waste of ressource and I don't know if it's really worth it. Then there's a "special extend" you get by missing 3 extend items. It will replace the next extend you would normally get. This extend will top your life stock without the rank gain which can be advantageous. It can be a good strat to get this extend item instead of the normal ones, but doing so means reaching 6 million points before the final boss which requires some scoring effort, mainly medal chaining. And if you fail to get the 6M points in a run while your strat relied on it, died a few times but didn't pick the regular extends because of that, well you're in trouble because the final boss can be tricky. For the most part, medal chaining is pretty easy but sometimes a medal will spawn at bad moments if you're not careful, so that will require some specific routing. Each character has 4 variations depending on the button you press when selecting it, I pick C for stronger shot and option and slower speed, because Shorty doesn't really need the speed and is a powerhouse with this setting. However this means harder medal chaining.
