Exploring the Unseen: Najafgarh Walking Tour, South West Delhi. Najafgarh, located in New Delhi, is a town in the South West Delhi district of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. As one of the three subdivisions of the Southwest Delhi district, it is situated on the outskirts of NCT Delhi in the southwestern part of the city. Najafgarh shares its territory limits with Gurgaon and Bahadurgarh in Haryana. The town was named after Mirza Najaf Khan (1723-1782), the commander-in-chief of the Mughal Army under Emperor Shah Alam II. Najaf Khan established a military outpost several kilometers from the capital of Shahjahanabad to protect Delhi from attacks by the British. He built a strong fort in the suburbs beyond the capital city and settled a small number of Mughals there, which later became known as Najafgarh. After Najaf Khan's death, Najafgarh became a fortified stronghold of the Rohilla Afghan chieftain Zabita Khan. Najafgarh is surrounded by 70 villages bordering Haryana. The borders are 10 kilometres to 15 kilometres from the main Najafgarh Market. Today, the town is connected to the Delhi Metro via the Najafgarh metro station on the Grey Line, which was opened to the public on October 4, 2019. Notable People: Ch. Brahm Prakash Yadav: first chief minister of Delhi. Virender Sehwag: Cricketer, born in Najafgarh. Sushil Kumar: Wrestler, born in Baprola Village, Najafgarh. Krishna Yadav won the Nari Shakti Puraskar for her business here. Najafgarh's main road once boasted a broad, one-way stretch, where traffic flowed freely and pedestrians strolled with ease. The market has small streets with many shops. You'll see nice homes in the streets of Najafgarh. Each of these homes is unique and special in its own way.
