Evaxion uses machine learning and probabilistic programming in its proprietary BIFROST model to help the vaccine design process. Through Evaxion’s existing capabilities, the team at Evaxion knows what parts of proteins are most likely to be recognized by the immune system, and they want to use the more important parts while eliminating the parts that are irrelevant to the immune system. However, not knowing their shape, it is difficult to solve the puzzle of piecing the important parts of the proteins together. The BIFROST model provides a method to quickly evaluate the possible shapes of the puzzle pieces thus guiding the vaccine design process towards the combinations that are most likely to fit. If Evaxion were to use traditional techniques for determining protein structure, this would take a long time, but due to the efficiency of BIFROST Evaxion get an estimate in a matter of minutes.
