Cergy Pointoise is about an hour from Paris and you get there on the RER A. In fact, it is two distinct towns, Cergy and Pontoise. It’s not one town as you may have thought (as I did). Together, along with a few other towns, they form an “agglomeration” and apparently, they are known for being “art” cities. Obviously, because I was there to deal with headaches and problems, I did not have an opportunity to see any art. But make no mistake. Several famous artist painted in Pontoise and Cergy. One of them is Paul Cezanne. Cezanne painted a famous oeuvre here called Le Moulin Sur La Couleuvre à Pontoise Camille Pissarro is another famous French painter who is connected to Cergy Pontoise and he and Cezanne were friends. In 1867, he painted the famous work “The Hermitage at Pointoise.” This work appears to be on display at the Guggenheim in New York. According to the website thegoodlifefrance.com, there is a museum dedicated to Pissarro in Pontoise. On their website, they wrote: “A museum presenting many of the paintings of Camille Pissarro is located in a grand bourgeois house on top of the walls. The works of many other artists from Pissarro’s period are also exhibited. The museum offers lofty views of the energetic River Oise, a powerful tributary of the Seine, flowing through the town on its way towards Cergy.” Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? Cergy Pointoise is a university town and there are a lot of students in this town. The day I visited, I saw a ton of your people walking around the area near the gare (train station). There was a very heavy police presence at the gare. I don’t know is this is the usual scene of it this has to do with terrorist threats relating to the war between Hamas and Israel in 2023. To visit Cergy-Pontoise, I took the RER A at La Défense (last stop on the Line 1 Metro) #paris #parisianlife #paris2024 #parisian #cergy #parismetro #cezanne #pontoise #cergy #
