The above clip is an outtake from the 1971 NBC documentary, "A Day in the Life of the President." President Nixon meets with his younger daughter, Julie Nixon Eisenhower, in the Oval Office. The two discuss her upcoming trip to an EPA center in North Carolina. Julie tells her father that she believes the environment is the most important issue to young people, more than the Vietnam War, which appears to be winding down. Nixon also mentions an earlier meeting with reporter Willard Edwards, whom he calls "One of my oldest friends in the newspaper business." In the full conversation (available in the Nixon White House tapes) the President advises his daughter on television appearances. "Never worry about it... The moment you begin to act, the moment you begin to put on a show, it kills it. It's one of the reasons I refuse to ever see myself on television."
