The adventure of the Rubicon is also in the camping, the swimming, the fishing, the boating / kayaking and even the waterfalls you can find between Rockbound Lake and Buck Island Lake. But, yeah, it's mostly about the rock crawling and wheeling. The Rubicon Trail is a true off road outdoor paradise and it is f&*king awesome! From Loon Lake, through the Granite Bowl, up Walker Hill, through Soup Kitchen, Soup Bowl, Little Sluice, V Rock and over/around Arnolds Rock to Buck Island Lake is the easy part. Then on and up K5 Tree, over Gas Can Hill, and through Big Sluice, the Squeeze and Sawtooth to the unnamed Sluice (the unnamed sluice is the most technical part of the trail that cannot be bypassed) before reaching Rubicon Springs after the Rubicon River Bridge...That's the fun part. The more traditional path would continue up Cadillac Hill to Observation Point and into Tahoe, but for this trip, we opted to turn around at Rubicon Springs and run all the fun stuff twice!
