Dear Brothers and Sisters, SAI RAM! This November is special as it marks the 150th episode of Samarpan at Brindavan. We are honored to have an eminent speaker, Dr. P. Rama Devi, M.D. (Paediatrics) D.C.H., to address us. A distinguished medical practitioner who held posts such as Director and Superintendent, Institute of Child Health and Children’s Hospital, Chennai, and H.O.D. and Professor of Paediatrics, Madras Medical College, she is well known amongst senior members of the Sai family. Born to Sri. Padmanabhan and Smt. Ramathilakam, Dr. Rama Devi was brought to Bhagawan in 1945 even as her mother was expecting her. Bhagawan who was very young then, blessed the expectant mother. Later in 1961, as a girl of 16 years, Dr. Rama Devi met the Lord in the house of Smt. Susheelamma (sister of Smt. Vijayamma - author of ‘Anyatha Sharanam Nasthi’) in Chennai. Upon Divine guidance and direction, she pursued her medical degree at the Stanley Medical College, Madras, and her D.C.H. and M.D. in Paediatrics from Madras Medical College. She was fortunate to spend her early life in close proximity with Bhagawan and has had interactions with the family members of Bhagawan and all those devotees who came to His Lotus Feet in the early years. She was handpicked by Swami Himself as a volunteer, before the Sai Organization came into existence. Later she was chosen by Swami to be in the First Batch of Seva Dal. She was also directed by Swami to participate in the Medical Service Wing of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations in her capacity as a doctor. “Praja Seva Cheyyi Bangaaru” (meaning, “Do service to humanity, dear one”) were the loving words of Bhagawan to her when she was a young medical student. This Divine command has inspired her to participate in Swami’s Divine mission whole-heartedly till this day.
