National Railroad Museum: Sumter & Choctaw

The Sumter & Choctaw #102 locomotive is outside traversing the grounds of the National Railroad Museum here in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Museum offers daily train rides from May through September, and #102 is leading rides today - May 19, 2022 (at 10 am, 12 noon, 2 pm and 4 pm) and Friday, May 20, 2022 (at 10 am, 12 noon and 2 pm). We invite you to come visit and see this beautiful, nearly 100-year-old locomotive up close and in person. The Mikado class locomotive was built in 1924 by Baldwin and spent several years hauling lumber in Alabama. Interestingly, it had a brush with fame many years later. In 2005, the "Jeopardy" TV game show visited the National Railroad Museum and featured #102 in one of its categories (episode #4929 aired February 2, 2006). The tender is a 44-ton center cab diesel locomotive that was converted about 40 years ago to resemble a tender, and the controls were adapted so that it can be operated from the cab of #102. #NationalRailroadMuseum
