This is episode 2 of the Task-Based Flight Test of The Backcountry Bogey. Let's give the Backcountry Bogey angle of attack capability with the GAP 26 pitot tube, GSU 25 ADAHRS, and G3X Touch system. Once calibrated, the system calculates the angle of attack using a differential coefficient of pressure to give the pilot analog indications. Once you have a stall speed (Vs0), in my case 43 knots, you fly 3 calibration maneuvers at 1.5x, 1.3x, and 1.1x stall speed to program the curve. You also fly a full power-off stall to essentially tell the system what coefficient of pressure equates to your wing's critical angle of attack. The Backcountry Bogey is an amateur-(me) built experimental homebuilt RANS S-21 Outbound with many upgrades from Aerosport Products and IFR avionics from Garmin (G3X Touch). It also features a one-of-a-kind paint scheme designed by the legendary Mirco Pecorari of Aircraft Studio Design, of Modena, Italy. Steve spent 21 years flying the mighty F-15C as a fighter pilot and test pilot. He now flies 737s for a legacy airline as well as a classic Beechcraft S-35 V-Tail Bonanza. His passion is sharing his love of aviation with the world.
