In an earlier video, ( • Clock chipping a Macintosh Centris 650 to ... ) I had shown how to install a new clock oscillator on an Apple Centris 650. This machine features a WOMBAT motherboard, which can be configured as many other machine models, including a Quadra 650. While we got an impressive performance boost from that modification, I thought we should look at another option for performance enhancement: cache memory. I had purchased a Newer Tech Quadra Cache card back in the early 1990s to go on my Centris 650, and I still have it in its box. It adds an additional 128K of cache to the existing onboard 8K. Here, we install it and see whether there's a meaningful performance boost when using this additional cache.
