My wife and I took a day trip to Channel Islands National Park and hiked through Santa Cruz Island. The national park isn't as well known, but very underrated and a lot of good landscapes and wildlife to see. We went to the Island via Island Packers. They did a great job of ferrying us to island and back to the mainland(Ventura California). Also highly recommend doing the guided tour so you all can get to know the history of Channel Islands as you hike to Cavern Point Loop.
