Sharks are carnivorous. They have large stomach and short intestine. The large stomach is acidic in nature. It helps in digesting the proteinaceous food. Digestive system of scoliodon starts with crescentic mouth guarded by three rows of sharp teeth on both the upper and lower jaws. Mouth opens to broad buccal chamber which has tongue on floor. Buccal chamber connects to short and broad pharynx which is perforated by five pairs of gill slits. The pharynx leads to short and broad oesophagus opening to large stomach. Stomach is divided into two parts the anterior broad cardiac stomach and posterior narrow pyloric stomach. Pyloric stomach is indicated by spleen, at the same time it possesses a defused pancreatic glands. Liver contains two lobes a right and a left. Right lobe has gall bladder. Liver is largest digestive gland in shark. The intestine is divided into three parts as small intestine, colon and rectum. Rectum contains a rectal gland which is not digestive in function, Alimentary canal ends with anus which opens in a common cloaca.
