We are officially past the halfway point! 🚀 Episode 3 of our "9-Board eBay Lot" series takes us deeper into the trenches of retro repair. Today, we are facing two very different, but equally stubborn, Game Boy Color boards: 1️⃣ The "Dark Screen" Board: The console boots, but the screen is so dim it's nearly invisible. Is it a bad capacitor, a failing potentiometer, or something deeper in the power circuit? 2️⃣ The "Total Loss" Board: This board has no power and is heavily damaged. We’re talking corrosion, broken traces, and a history of neglect. This is easily one of the roughest boards in the lot. I’ll be walking you through my full diagnostic process for both—showing you how to trace voltage rails and how to decide when a board is truly "too far gone" (or if we can perform a miracle). 5 boards down... only 4 remain. Can we keep the 100% success rate alive? 🛠️✨ 🚀 IN THIS EPISODE: ✅ Diagnosing the GBC contrast and voltage circuit. ✅ Dealing with heavy corrosion and physical board damage. ✅ Trace repair and component replacement. ✅ 5/9 Progress Update! --------------------------------------------------- ⏱️ Video Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:18 Inspecting Board #1 1:13 "Dark" Screen issue 1:33 GBC Potentiometer Fix 2:47 Testing Screen with a Super Cool Game 4:50 Cleaning A Button 5:04 Inspecting Board #2 5:33 Testing 2nd Board 6:10 Testing with Multimeter 6:54 Checking and Removing Capacitors and EM1 7:57 Cleanning excess of Solder on the board 9:10 Another Test 10:20 Realizing the sad truth 12:23 Final Thoughts --------------------------------------------------- 🛒 EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS USED (Affiliate Links) 🛠️ --------------------------------------------------- *SOLDERING EQUIPMENT:* High Quality Solder: https://amzn.to/3YnGC3q Soldering + Hot Air Station: https://amzn.to/4a8wovg Smoke Fume: https://amzn.to/4iQ9xGT Solder Wick: https://amzn.to/3MQ5iix PCB Holder: https://amzn.to/4a9hPYk 10X Magnifying Glass w/light: https://amzn.to/4pzp8NG *MATERIALS & CLEANING:* Cheap Multimeter: https://amzn.to/3MlinAx 30AWG Colored Wire: https://amzn.to/48uAsoj DeoxIT Contact Cleaner: https://amzn.to/48tHl9n Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) 99.9%: https://amzn.to/4oL54a0 IPA Dispenser: https://amzn.to/4ptUntr Cotton Swabs: https://amzn.to/44iaqlJ Music by the great @RossBugden . #GBC #GameBoyColor #RetroRepair #Restoration #Electronics #Nintendo #GameBoy #Series #Soldering #TechFix
