This memorial song, “Luca’s Light,” was created in loving memory of a little girl whose life, though brief, carried more strength than many see in a lifetime. It honors her birthday in heaven and the two courageous years she spent fighting pediatric liver cancer. It also honors the parents and family who stood beside her through every appointment, every treatment, every hopeful moment, and every tear. Child loss is not something you “move on” from. It is something you carry. The silence after the machines stop. The empty space in a room that once held laughter. The questions that rise in the middle of the night. This song exists to sit inside that silence and say: you are not alone. Luca’s battle with liver cancer was real. The fear was real. The hope was real. And so was the presence of God. “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18 He was in the waiting room. He was near when strength felt thin. He was near when prayers felt desperate. He was near in the final breath. One of the hardest questions grieving parents ask is this: Why would God allow this? There is no easy answer that makes loss painless. Grief does not disappear because of a paragraph. But Scripture reminds us that we do not see the full picture in this life. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 We see the valley. God sees eternity. We see unfinished plans. God sees fulfilled promises. We see separation. God sees reunion. God did not abandon her. He did not ignore your prayers. He did not turn His face away from the hospital bed. Jesus Himself wept at a grave. He understands the weight of loss. He walks with the brokenhearted, not away from them. “Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?” Psalm 56:8 Every tear was counted. Every whisper was heard. Every plea was known. Though healing did not come in the way everyone hoped, Scripture promises a greater healing that cancer cannot touch. “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces.” Isaiah 25:8 Luca is not in pain. She is not afraid. She is not fighting anymore. She is whole. She is held. She is safe in the arms of the same Savior who said: “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:14 In her memory, we also raise awareness for pediatric liver cancer. Too many families walk this road quietly. Increased awareness, research, and support matter. If sharing this song brings comfort to one grieving parent or encourages one more person to learn about liver cancer and support affected families, her light continues to shine. To every parent carrying this kind of grief: You did not fail. You loved fiercely. You stood in faith when your knees were weak. Nothing about your love was wasted. “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life… shall be able to separate us from the love of God.” Romans 8:38 - 39 Not cancer. Not time. Not even death. This is not the final chapter. It is the waiting between pages. There will be a day when sorrow gives way to joy, when questions are answered, when arms that feel empty now are filled again. Until that day, may this song be a gentle reminder: God was there the entire time. He is here now. And Luca’s light still shines.
