I’m trying to play every golf course in Melbourne, so if you know a better course than this let me know in the comments. This is the 20th course I have played so far and I think it was one of the best. It’s called Latrobe Golf course and its basically in the centre of Melbourne, on the bend of the Yara River. It’s a beautiful tree lined course with lovely fairways and immaculate greens. I arrived early and stopped into the club house to check out the facilities, grab a quick sandwich and then went down the range to hit a few warm up shots. I even practiced a bit of putting. Hole 1 is a 160m Par 3. I hit a good 6-iron and stuck it on the green. I had a long putt for birdie, that went close and I slotted in a Par. Hole 2 is 470m Par 5. I hit the fairway with my drive, but slightly pulled my 3-wood on shot 2. My pitch just about cleared the bunker and left me with a birdie chance. It missed but I popped in the par. Hole 3 is a Par 4 381m. I pulled my drive into the trees and had to lay up. I hit my third up the fairway and had a pitch at the green. I just missed the green and had a long putt for bogey. It didn’t fall and I took double here. Hole 4 is a Par 4 379m. My drive hit the fairway and I hit a 3-wood at the green. I pulled it a bit to the left and had a chip at the green on shot 3. It hit the green and I had a chance at saving par. It missed and I messed up the bogey putt and ended up with another double here. Hole 5 is a Par 4 317m. I hit the fairway with my drive. But my pitch just came up just short of the green. I chipped it to within 5 yards and managed to sink the putt for par. Hole 6 is a Par 4 361m. I pushed my drive onto the wrong fairway and had a tough shot back through the trees. It managed to sneak a way through but I ended up fatting my chip and having a long putt for par. It didn’t come anywhere near it and I managed to miss the bogey putt as well. Hole 7 is a short Par 4 278m. I hit a low 3-wood that landed just before the green. I pitched it onto the green and hit a long birdie putt at the hole. It didn’t fall and I tapped in a par. Hole 8 is a Par 4 343m. A slight dog-leg left and I cut the corner here. My pitch just landed off the left of the green. I duffed my chip here and it didn’t work out as well as I planned. My putt went close and I tapped in the bogey. Hole 9 is a Par 3 147m. I hit the green with a 6-iron and had a decent attempt at a birdie putt. I tapped in the par and walked off happy. I had a decent front nine, shooting seven over par. 42 shots on a par 35. That makes it 16 points on the front nine. The double bogeys were a bit disappointing because they were avoidable, but I thought I played well otherwise.
