I'm excited to introduce my very first hand-crafted electric guitar! The body is made of walnut and cherry wood that was harvested from the Gettinger family farm in Merom, Indiana – a place where I have many cherished memories. Last fall we were helping Mom and Dad clean out the shed, and he asked, “Do you want this wood from Grandpa’s house?” and I jumped at the opportunity. Grandpa passed away in October 2022, and that same fall Dad was diagnosed with ALS. We tend to take for granted that the people we love will always be present in our lives, but these two events made me really appreciate my heritage, and the time I’ve gotten to spend with Grandpa and Dad. Many of my favorite memories from childhood are of making things with my dad. He taught me how to plan and execute a project, and I’ve built a lot of things – but never something as ambitious as a guitar. Making this with my dad (and mostly with his tools) was really special to me. I want to say thanks to those who helped with this project: My uncle Neil Larson who was there to help cut the first boards Rich Holmes for cutting out my template pieces Nick Key for his assistance, advice, and confidence boost Bob Russel for his help, advice, tools, and teaching me that woodworking projects are never ruined unless you quit My mom, Lyn Gettinger for choosing to be impressed at every stage – you are so encouraging! My wife, Veronica Gettinger for understanding the significance of this project for me And finally, thank you Dad for always encouraging me to try new things even if they seem wildly out of reach. More importantly, thank you for a heritage I can be proud of. This guitar is dedicated to you.
