In this ‘On The Blue Couch’ Episode I caught up with Lebogang Mulaisi, the Congress of South African Trade Unions’ (COSATU) Labour Market Policy Coordinator. She is an EXCO and MANCO member at the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC) and represents organised labour in the labour market chamber of NEDLAC. Lebogang has an honours and master’s degree from the University of Johannesburg and is currently a PhD candidate at the same university. She has also serves as a steering committee member for the Presidential Health Compact, chairs Pillar One of the Compact: Human Resources for Health, and is a board member for the Institute for Economic Justice (IEJ). In her Blue Couch session, we spoke about how she became a trade unionist, after feeling like an odd fit in the private sector. She also touched on how she has evolved as a mother and wife in a male-dominated industry and found a unique way to express her values and principles in a way that does not conform to predominantly masculine ways of leading.
