Fumi Kaneko and Vadim Muntagirov prepare to star in the 20th-century ballet masterpiece, Romeo and Juliet, brought to life by Prokofiev’s ravishing score and Kenneth MacMillan's evocative and detailed choreography. Watch behind the scenes rehearsals and hear from both Principal dancers about the challenges of dancing the roles of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers. Since its 1965 premiere with The Royal Ballet, Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet has become a great modern ballet classic and celebrates its 60th anniversary this season. The technically challenging and nuanced choreography gives dancers in the lead roles a wealth of opportunity to bring differing interpretations of the doomed lovers. The bustling group scenes bring the atmosphere of Renaissance Verona to life, but MacMillan also choreographed beautifully compelling solos and pas de deux that bring out the rich emotional interiors of their characters.
