Surveillance video shows what happened moments before Anthony Lowe Jr. fatal police shooting | FULL

Surveillance video was released on Monday by police in Huntington Beach, Calif., showing the moments leading up to the shooting of double amputee Anthony Lowe Jr. The video shows police approaching Lowe before they attempt to remove him from his wheelchair, at which point he appears to try fleeing from police in Huntington Park, Calif. on Jan. 26. As he runs, the video shows more police cruisers approaching as he swings what police said was a knife. The video concludes with officers drawing their firearms. Video shared online shows the 36-year-old trying to hobble away on his amputated legs as police approach Lowe with their guns drawn and pointed at him. The Huntington Park Police Department (HPPD) said in a statement that officers were responding to reports of a stabbing, and the victim described the attacker as a Black man in a wheelchair who “dismounted the wheelchair, ran to the victim without provocation, and stabbed him in the side of the chest with a 12-inch butcher knife.” Police also released surveillance video Monday of the alleged stabbing, saying Lowe could be seen getting out of his wheelchair near a Shell gas station and allegedly stabbing a man who appeared to walk by him. The video then shows who they said is Lowe return to his wheelchair before he crosses the street. Police said the man who was stabbed "stumbled into the vehicle lane" prior to Lowe returning to his wheelchair. Lowe’s family and activists gathered at HPPD headquarters last week to condemn the killing — one of several protests across the U.S. this week that accuses law enforcement of excessive and lethal violence.
