(23 Mar 2011) HEADLINE Airport shooting suspect says he acted alone CAPTION: The suspect in the slaying of two U.S. airmen at the Frankfurt airport confessed to targeting members of the American military, in a case that German officials are treating as a possible act of Islamic terrorism. (March 3) A top security official in Germany says the suspect in the slaying of two American airmen has confessed to targeting members of the the U-S military. The two were killed Wednesday and two others were wounded in a shooting at the airport in Frankfurt. Security officials say the suspect is a 21-year-old ethnic Albanian Muslim who was apparently radicalized over the last few weeks. They also say he acted alone. (NAT SOUND ALBANIAN) The suspect's family says they are having a hard time understanding what happened and add they have always had good relations with Americans. German prosecutors and U-S authorities have taken over the scene and the investigation. They say as of now they are treating the case as a possible act of Islamic terrorism. In the meantime security has been stepped up at the airport in Frankfurt with armed policemen in body armor patrolling the terminals. The two wounded Americans are still being treated at a hospital and the suspect is expected to appear in court later Thursday. APTN STORY NUMBER: 678052 AP TELEVISION Karlsruhe 1.
