Join us as we break through the stereotypes and explore the real Serbia. We are in Belgrade, Serbia’s capital, to find out what this Balkan nation is truly like. Along the way, we discover personal stories and authentic perspectives from Serbians. A graffiti saying "When the army returns to Kosovo" expresses the unresolved tensions since Kosovo’s declaration of independence in 2008, a move Serbia can’t accept as it considers Kosovo as part of its territory. "Don't trust the media!" one local tells us, encouraging us to see Serbia through the eyes of its people and make up our own minds. Serbia’s deep ties with Russia, rooted in shared history, culture, and religion, are hard to miss. Outside the Church of Saint Sava, a symbol of Serbia’s Orthodox faith, we spot slogans like "Go Russia, go!". Yet Serbia is pursuing EU membership and is cautiously balancing its relations with both East and West. But Serbia isn’t all about politics. We explore its laid-back side in Tasmajdan Park, its rich food scene in lively Skadarlija, its love for sports like boxing, tennis and basketball – where global stars such as Novak Djokovic and Nikola Jokić were born – and we meet very welcoming locals. From street musicians to a former military officer to beautiful Serbian ladies … Serbia’s true charm lies in its people, revealing a softer side behind its tough reputation! As we visit Belgrade’s landmarks – from the historic Belgrade Fortress to the modern Belgrade Waterfront to the scars of the NATO bombings in 1999, we witness how this city and its people carry the weight of their history while looking toward the future.
