The six towns that produced Staffordshire were situated on a good source of clay, salt, lead and coal - materials that were vital for the production of earthenware and porcelain. It became one of the largest producers of ceramics in Britain in the 18th century and by the 19th century, the market for Staffordshire pottery expanded to exports around the world.
