Protests in Portland after Trump deploys national guard in support of ICE

People in Portland gathered Sunday to protest U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to deploy military forces to the Democratic-run city in Oregon. U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on Sunday ordered 200 Oregon National Guard troops to be deployed under federal authority while the state filed a lawsuit challenging Trump. The Republican president had announced plans to send troops into Portland on Saturday. In a press conference on Saturday, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, a Democrat, had said U.S. President Donald Trump "does not have the authority to deploy federal troops" to Portland to protect federal immigration facilities. At least one person was seen being detained during the protest outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on Sunday evening.
