One of our favourite parks in England. The main park is on three levels of terracing with wooded areas further down. The area is known as Dungeon Wood. There are benches everywhere with wonderful views across Holme Valley. Its location on the side of the valley and the need for terracing produces lots of different layers and areas to explore. Henry Beaumont was a wealthy land owner and member of parliament, educated at Eton College Cambridge. He inherited Whitley Beaumont Estate and lived at Whitley hall and also Crosland Hall. He gifted the land near Lockwood known as Dungeon Wood to Huddersfield corporation to build Beaumont park for the people of Huddersfield.
