Unfortunately, that's difficult or expensive to do electronically. The good news is that we can do it mechanically. It's not hard and it's really cheap. You can design and make a countershaft mechanism that will allow you to get 8 or more speeds from a single-speed motor. In this video, I'll show you all the steps. You can build along with the Real Lathe Project, or you can use this idea for your own project.
