Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today, we're taking a look at the Brake Buddy 3 Portable Braking System on a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. Now there are five required components when flat-towing a vehicle, and the first one, starting on the vehicle side is going to be the base plate. And the base plate attaches to the frame of the vehicle and that's gonna allow for all your connection points for your other components. Now, going along with that you see our tow bar here is actually attached to that base plate, and that's gonna make that connection between the vehicle and the RV. Next, you have your safety chains and that's gonna attach to the loops on your base plate and also to the side of the camper and that way, if they do become disconnected for whatever reason, these chains are gonna hold this in place. Next, you have your braking system and your braking system will allow the vehicle to slow and stop as you put those brakes on, on the RV. Also included with that is gonna be this breakaway switch. So, if all your components fail, this is gonna pull this cable, putting the brakes on the vehicle and bringing it to a stop, so it's not rolling down the highway. Next, you have your diode wiring, and your diode wiring is gonna send the turn signals and brake lights and the running lights from your RV to your vehicle. And this is all done based on this umbilical cord which is gonna attach to your six pole here that we have on our vehicle to the seven pole on the camper. Here we have our Brake Buddy installed in the vehicle, and as you can tell, this just simply sits in front of the driver's seat, and when called for brakes, it will actually de-arm on a bracket on the pedal, allowing this to slow and stop as the camper slows and stops as well. You also have a breakaway switch here on the front, so if the vehicle was to detach from the RV and tow bar, simply this would pull, calling for that braking system to kick on and bring the vehicle to a stop. Now, this system is a really great one for those of you that maybe don't flat-tow that often, maybe a couple times a year. This is a nice easy system to kind of put in place, clamp that down, and you'll be ready to go. But also, if you have multiple vehicles, this is nice because you can take this from vehicle to vehicle and be able to flat-tow those with one system. So now we're here in the RV and the Brake Buddy 3 is a proportional braking system meaning that it's not all or none. So if I lightly press the brakes, it'll lightly apply pressure on the vehicle. If I jab the brakes pretty hard, it'll do the same on the vehicle. So it's gonna move roughly at about the same braking speed as our camper. Also included with the kit is this monitoring system. So, it's gonna tell you when you are braking. That way, you know if the braking system is actually working in your towed vehicle. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the braking here. So while you're driving, if you need a little bit more or less brakes, you can do it at the driver's seat of your camper. Now as far as installation of this proportional braking system, it's quite a bit easier than some other systems that permanently get mounted in the vehicle. And there's a few components that you will have to install, but I'm gonna walk you through every single one of them and let's look at that now. So, one of our main components that I started off the install with is gonna be the actual dash-mounted kit. And what this is, is it's got a floor pull and that's gonna attach to our plug that actually goes to the Brake Buddy. You can see it's labeled nicely, 'Dash' and then actual 'Brake Buddy', so it can really only go one way. And you want this in a nice spot that you're able to plug it in pretty easily, and it's also gonna reach with this cord. So the dash plug itself actually has a decent amount of length so you can find a nice spot for it, and I just kind of coiled up the excess, but off of that wire, you're going to have four wires in that insulated form. And I've gone ahead and attached extra run wires, and that's just so we can run this through our grommet. And pretty easy, we have a power, we have a ground, and then the other two are going to go to our breakaway switch up front in the vehicle, so having those extra wires and being able to run it through the grommet makes it a lot easier to attach i
