the Bay of Icmeler, Turkey

(Music by Philip Glass; "Opening" taken from the album Glassworks.) A wee video I put together from a trip to Turkey in July 2016. Icmeler was a fantastic place, the people, friendly, and the eating, good. Although still "touristy", Icmeler was a lot quieter and more restrained than the veritable Sodom & Gomorrah of Maramis that sits just along the coast from Icmeler. It had a pleasing sleepy feel to it and a quietness which was easily found away from the main streets and avenues where travellers were beckoned into the cafes and bars and the eateries that lined the main drag. It was hard to sleep too long at night owing to the temperatures and I found the nightly call to prayer that echoed through the valley from the various mosques, quite beautiful. Within 24 hours of our return back to Scotland, the anti-Erdogan coup plunged Turkey into the brink of chaos, and into the brink of a civil war. Of-course, Erdogan prevailed and soon began his "Purge".
