In Isaiah 65:5, God calls the people of Israel obstinate and rebellious, "pursuing their own imaginations" and turning away from the Lord. In particular, He says that people who say "Keep away; don't come near me, for I am too sacred for you!" are "smoke" in His nostrils and a fire that keeps burning all day. In light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we can learn from the Israelite's disobedience how to have humility before God, and thus others, knowing that we should not think of ourselves as higher or better than anyone else. We are all sinners in desperate need of our Savior, Jesus.
